My Walk
I grew up in a Buddhist home. I remember being 8 or 9 playing in my neighborhood being approached by men stepping out a big blue van with the words Warrick Baptist written across it. They were probably about my age now. They asked me if I want to go to church, play games and learn about God. I said yes. So I became part of the church’s youth program that they called The Ambassador’s of Christ. We met every Wednesday. I remember initially a bunch of kids from my neighborhood attended but eventually it was just me and the sons of the men who lead the youth group. I remember they were godly men who just wanted to spread the good news to kids like me. They loved Jesus and that love spread into me. I continued going to church up until I was about 17 or so. I guess I became too cool for it. The world has a way of making you feel you don’t need Christ anymore right. But the foundation always stuck with me and I never stopped believing.
It wasn’t until I was about 30 and having just moved into Baltimore, feeling empty and alone; I started going back to church. I started going to Bridgeway Community Church. Mind you, a lot can happen to a man between 17 and 30 and my story is no exception but because of godly people like Rick and Ciney meeting me where I was, I saw what a relationship with Christ really looks like. And I started my own relationship with Him. It’s been a little over 5 years now in my walk and I can truly say, even though there have been many ups and downs, that every step has been filled with joy and hope because every step gets me closer to Him.
When you’re young and you learn about Christ it doesn’t fully register. It’s not until you realize you need Him in your life that you actually want Him in your Life. Thank you, Lord, for Producing that yearning in me! God had to let me experience some heartbreaking situations to make me realize that. I was baptized at about 12; not really knowing what I was actually doing. I was just going through the motions basically but now I know the Spirit is at work within me and I want this website to reach this help others the way that those godly men helped me. Please feel free to email me or Bennie or Brandon with any questions or concerns and we promise we get back to you as soon as we can. We are here to help in your walk!
